The 2025 James Halliday Australian Chardonnay & Cabernet Challenge has once again showcased the regional diversity and exceptional quality of Australian wine, judged this year in the Yarra Valley.

“I don’t think Chardonnay has ever been made better in Australia than it is right now. Cabernet also was fantastic, with some absolute world beaters.” - Glenn Barry, Chair of Judges.

This year’s Challenge recognised 16 Regional Trophy Winners and celebrated outstanding results across every major wine region in the country, with the following wines claiming this year's top honours:

  • James Halliday Australian Chardonnay Challenge Trophy
Shaw + Smith Lenswood Vineyard 2023 Chardonnay – Adelaide Hills, SA
  • James Halliday Australian Cabernet Challenge Trophy
Devils Lair 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon – Margaret River, WA

While missing out on top honours, Credaro Estate received strong support with our 1000 Crowns Chardonnay 2024 receiving a Gold medal with 95 points. Our 1000 Crowns Cabernet Sauvignon was also rewarded with a Silver with 90 points - shop it now

It continues a strong start to awards season for our winemaking team, with our 1000 Crowns Cabernet Sauvignon being recognised as the Best Cabernet at the Royal QLD Wine Awards earlier this year.
