Just like Kath & Kim, wine and pizza are an iconic duo.

But there’s an age-old question – does red or white wine pair better? Well, the answer lies in a pizza’s key ingredients.

White, Rosé & Light Red Wines

Pair better with simpler, lighter pizza toppings, like a margherita or Hawaiian, seafood pizza or pizza bianco

Bold Red Wines

Match well with big, robust, meaty flavours, like pepperoni, spicy sausage or a meatlovers pizza

You can absolutely go rogue and match whatever pizza you like with your wine, but here are some of our favourite matches.

  • Margherita Pizza: thanks to its tangy tomato base and rich, gooey cheese, our sharp, fruit-driven Ereditá Pinot Grigio or Five Tales Rosé pairs nicely.
  • Hawaiian Pizza: pineapple on a pizza?! Sacrilege to many Italians, you can't argue with its popularity. If you're in the pro camp, the fleshy stonefruit flavours of our Ereditá Fiano suits this pizza perfectly.
  • Pepperoni Pizza: Rich, oily and sometimes spicy pepperoni needs a wine with structured tannins to cut through the richness. Try our Ereditá Sangiovese or Kinship Shiraz. You could even try our chilled red, Nuovo Rosso!
  • Garlic Prawn Pizza: It's no secret that seafood and white wine is a match made in heaven. With its sharp freshness and acidity, our Five Tales Sauvignon Blanc or Five Tales Sauvignon Blanc Semillon makes a great accompaniment to this summer classic.
  • Mushroom Pizza: Thanks to its full flavoured, fruit-driven profile, our favourite Ereditá Fragola is a great choice to partner with mushroom's savoury, earthy flavours
  • Bianco Pizza: A Roman favourite, this minimal-ingredients pizza pairs nicely with our popular Kinship Chardonnay - with its naturally succulent, fresh citrus acidity elevating this simplistic, yet flavoursome, pizza.
  • Vegetarian Pizza: Red or white varietals - it really depends on the ingredients you add! If you opt for Mediterranean-style vegetables, we'd suggest a varietal that suits barbecues - something like our Kinship Chardonnay or Five Tales Rosé. Of course, there's nothing wrong with a drop of Ereditá Fragola or Ereditá Nebbiolo either!

At the end of the day, food and wine pairing is all about personal preference. So next time you’re having a pizza night, experiment with different types of delicious Aussie wine and see what you like best!

So next time you're choosing a bottle, think Australian wine – because ‘We make a wine for that.’
